Startup uses Space to solve sustainability and business challenges on Earth
Pablo, what inspired you to found Orbital EOS together with the CEO, Juan Peña?
The idea around Orbital EOS was born 4000 feet above the ocean in an airplane of the Maritime Safety and Rescue Society where Juan Peña, the CEO of the company, and I were executing a mission. Observing the sea from an aircraft has limitations in terms of scale and is pretty expensive. Thus, we started dreaming that satellites could be used to observe the whole Earth and to solve world challenges like pollution, oil spills detection, terrain deformations, and others. This is how we decided that it is time to disrupt the status quo and fly high in our dreams.
We love what we do and we are passionate about the power of satellites, moreover, about the real-time satellite data analytics and decision-making that artificial intelligence facilitates. This is how our Earth observation AI-driven platform EOS Viewer was born. Beyond helping businesses with oil pollution and oil spills matters, EOS Viewer enables the monitoring of the health of oceans.
What is your experience in the sector and what do you think you can offer differently with your services?
We have more than 12 years of experience in remote sensing. Personally, I’ve been 11 years tactical mission coordinator in Maritime Rescue. I’ve also been a mission systems instructor and a software engineer in my early days. The years of experience in the domain and the vision for a better planet, where we can really contribute on a global scale, gave us the final push to initiate Orbital EOS. While there are companies offering similar products to ours, EOS Viewer is the only SaaS platform that provides oil type identification, amount quantification, and forecasting, with 70% better accuracy in the events´ detection and management.
How important do you think it is to work alongside a company to help you position your brand?
We are a startup company and keep reshaping, adapting to the business environment. Our pace of development is sometimes breathtaking. Thus, finding the right external partner for collaboration is not an easy task. We require at least the same level of responsiveness, inspiration, and creativity. On the other hand, our team is technical and we have been learning about marketing, sales, and negotiations on the go. A moment came in our journey when we realized the need for a solid external push and guidance by professionals. This is how we came across CoMantis and have been working together since we engaged.
How do you evaluate the cooperation with CoMantis? What are the areas they’ve helped you with?
Orbital EOS has a unique platform and offering, on the other hand, we were experiencing some challenges at the time of fine-tuning our marketing, sales, pricing, and positioning strategy. Working with CoMantis was an easy decision for us, given the sharp focus, fantastic speed, and unyielding result-oriented approach. Within only 3 weeks of close collaboration (touching topics like website, SEO, social media, marketing, and sales messaging, collateral, market positioning, pricing, offers, contracts, negotiations, connections) we were able to achieve what would have taken us months of internal work. The guidance, genuine care, professional expertise and sales experience received were priceless, given the immediate results for our business. Trust is built over time and needs to be earned. CoMantis are working on earning it every day.
What was unique in your experience with CoMantis?
CoMantis took on our business after a thorough assessment that they could really be of help. Once we engaged, they treated us as a priority. CoMantis care about understanding, getting to the core of our value proposition, and embracing our vision for a better world. It is quite fulfilling when you see a partner that really cares about you and your business is not just a number to them. What we also truly appreciate is open, clear, and coherent communication.
What are the three main points that made you choose to entrust your external sales to them? What do you think CoMantis will continue to bring to Orbital EOS?
Already have shared several outstanding qualities, though if I have to summarize into 3 key points that would be: 1) solid professional experience 2) genuine care for achieving tangible results 3) large and established network. CoMantis is a company that learns, experiments, and adapts - this is the kind of attitude that can help us to continue growing, attracting customers, and walking towards a better future for the Earth.
How optimistic are you about the future regarding Orbital EOS and how do you see yourself in 5 years?
I fully trust our project. Our company was born out of passion and years of professional expertise. Moreover, our aim is to improve the health of oceans and contribute to solving challenges that our planet has, using the power of satellites, technology, and artificial intelligence. Within 5 years I will be having the same focus, drive, and commitment as of today. There are lots of things to be done and EOS Viewer is still a baby. We have an ambitious roadmap and will be adding new and powerful functionalities to the SaaS platform. The pattern recognition and artificial intelligence part of the solution have endless possibilities and time is required to sharpen the outcomes. Satellites will become cheaper and more accessible - that would give us the opportunity to scale and transform satellite intelligence into a trustworthy instrument for better businesses, better economy, better planet, better humanity.
Thank you for your kind words, Pablo!
